Dear Miami Wardog school family,

We, members of the Miami Board of Education, wanted to share exciting news about our district. During Monday night’s regular school board meeting, we approved the hire of Assistant Superintendent Jill Douthit as our next district leader. We are excited to welcome Mrs. Douthit into her new role this July.

Mrs. Douthit has been an integral member of the Miami Wardog family for the past six years. She is dedicated to fostering educational excellence, strategic leadership and collaborative partnerships for student success.

Joining our district as Director of Special Programs in 2019, she led efforts to improve special education services, enhance English Learner (EL) programs, and expand gifted and talented opportunities. In addition, she established a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to provide targeted interventions for students and secured funding through USDA programs to ensure free meals for all students. In 2022, Mrs. Douthit, after earning her Education Specialist degree, was promoted to Executive Director of Operations, where she collaborated with district administration to provide strategic leadership to building-level administrators.

Mrs. Douthit has been in her current role as assistant superintendent since March of 2024. She has placed a strong emphasis on developing Miami’s curriculum and enhancing instructional practices throughout the district. Working alongside a team of teachers and principals, she has also helped craft and implement comprehensive, district-wide professional development plans.

Before joining Miami, Mrs. Douthit had classroom experience as a teacher and instructional coach at Fairland Elementary School and Neosho (MO) School District.

We can’t wait to see what great things Mrs. Douthit will accomplish alongside our district team, teachers, students and community members as superintendent.

With help from the Oklahoma State School Boards Association (OSSBA), the board selected Mrs. Douthit from a competitive pool of applicants. OSSBA has helped facilitate superintendent searches across the state, working with other school board associations throughout the country to ensure quality candidates.

Thank you to the parents, staff and community members who participated in the superintendent search survey and focus groups. Your responses were incredibly valuable as we navigated the search process and narrowed down candidates to a professional who values our district and community and will help our district continue to grow and provide new, exciting opportunities for our students.

Sincerely,

Members of the Miami Board of Education
