MIAMI, Okla. — Miami Public Schools is proud to announce the hiring of Jordan Sweeney as the new head coach of the Lady Wardogs basketball program.
Sweeney brings a strong background in coaching, teaching, and strength and conditioning to Miami, along with a passion for building competitive programs and developing student-athletes on and off the court.
Most recently, Sweeney served as Head Boys Basketball Coach at Jay Public Schools, where he led the varsity program while also contributing across multiple sports, including junior high baseball and cross country. Prior to that role, he spent two years as a multi-sport coach, working with basketball, softball, and baseball programs at various levels.
His experience also includes working directly with girls’ basketball programs, serving as an acting assistant and skills coach for the Locust Grove Lady Pirates, where he helped develop athletes from 7th through 12th grade and assisted with varsity team camps.
In addition to his coaching experience, Sweeney is currently a high school math teacher and holds a Master of Science in Strength and Conditioning Studies from Arkansas Tech University. His background in performance training and classroom instruction aligns with Miami Public Schools’ commitment to developing well-rounded student-athletes.
Sweeney’s coaching philosophy emphasizes high-energy practices, full-court defensive pressure, and an attacking offensive mindset. His approach is centered on creating a competitive environment that pushes athletes to exceed their limits while fostering teamwork and accountability.
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Sweeney to the Wardog Family,” said Athletic Director Millie George. “Coach Sweeney comes from a basketball coaching family and is committed to developing our girls’ basketball program at all levels.”
Sweeney is expected to begin his duties immediately as he prepares for the upcoming season and works to continue building a strong foundation for Lady Wardogs basketball.
