Is the former Will Rogers Middle School site safe for students & staff?
We understand the community’s concerns regarding benzene and other potential underground pollutants, and since student and staff safety is our top priority, we want to be very clear about the steps that have already been taken. Environmental testing has been conducted at the site, and benzene has been in a non-detect status since 2019. The district requested that the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) conduct additional testing; however, DEQ declined based on the consistent non-detect results over time.
