Miami, OK – April 12, 2024 – Miami Public Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Jana Kelley as the new Director of Special Education. With a wealth of experience spanning 17 years in education, including 14 years in Special Education and 3 in General Education, Kelley brings a dynamic leadership style and a deep understanding of the diverse needs of students.
Kelley’s extensive background includes working with students in all grades from Pre-K through 12th grade, across varying levels of abilities. She has served as the Secondary Special Education Coordinator in the past year, demonstrating her exceptional leadership skills and commitment to excellence in special education services.
“I am truly blessed and honored to be given the opportunity to have an impact as the Director of Special Education at Miami Public Schools,” said Jana Kelley. “Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to advocating for the unique needs of students with disabilities and fostering inclusive learning environments where every student can thrive.”
Kelley is a proud graduate of Miami High School, Class of 1999, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Northeastern State University. She is certified in Special Education K-12, specializing in mild to moderate and severe profound disabilities. Additionally, she holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Southern Nazarene University.
Outside of her professional achievements, Jana Kelley is a devoted wife to her husband Jack Kelley, and a loving mother to her three children, Brandon, Hannah, and Christopher. With two children currently in college and her youngest a junior at Miami High School, Kelley’s personal experiences further enrich her understanding of the needs of students and families within the Miami community.
Executive Director of Operations Jill Douthit expressed confidence in Kelley’s ability to lead Miami Public Schools’ special education programs, stating, “Jana is a remarkable individual known for her unwavering dedication, extensive expertise, and deep passion for special education. As she assumes the role of Director of Special Education, her hard work, knowledge, and experience will undoubtedly continue to benefit Miami Public Schools. With a heart for kids and a commitment to excellence, Jana’s leadership will ensure that every student receives the support they need to succeed.”
