Miami, OK – Miami Public Schools proudly announces the appointment of Rusty Mercer as the new Athletic Director. With a wealth of experience and a long-standing passion for excellence in Wardog Athletics, Mercer steps into his new role poised to lead Miami’s sports programs to greater heights.
Mercer brings extensive expertise to Wardog Athletics, currently serving as interim Athletic Director and for many years as the head boys’ basketball coach. His dedication to student athletes’ holistic development and his commitment to maintaining high standards align perfectly with the values of Miami Public Schools.
In his new role, Mercer will oversee all aspects of the school’s athletic programs, working closely with coaches, staff, and student-athletes to ensure a supportive and thriving environment for sports participation. His vision includes fostering a culture of teamwork, sportsmanship, and achievement, both on and off the field. In addition to this role, Mercer will continue to fulfill his responsibilities as Dean of Students at MHS & MJHS.
